N\u00e9 en 1932 \u00e0 Bogota, il y fait ses \u00e9tudes, puis, apr\u00e8s le bac se rend en Espagne o\u00f9 il s&rsquo;inscrit \u00e0 la facult\u00e9 de m\u00e9decine de Madrid, r\u00e9solu \u00e0 devenir psychiatre. Il fait sa th\u00e8se sous la direction d&rsquo;une des sommit\u00e9s de l&rsquo;\u00e9poque, le PR Lopez Ibor.Il d\u00e9couvre \u00e0 cette occasion l&rsquo;utilisation de certaines techniques comme les \u00e9lectrochocs ou les comas insuliniques qui le r\u00e9voltent au point qu&rsquo;il pense un moment abandonner sa vocation. Puis il d\u00e9couvre l&rsquo;hypnose clinique et d\u00e9cide de l&rsquo;introduire dans l&rsquo;h\u00f4pital o\u00f9 il travaille. Mais l&rsquo;hypnose a mauvaise presse, elle est synonyme de charlatanisme, et elle fait peur.
